Current Projects
Building on the tremendously successful projects initiated in 2008-2009, SIFE Cardiff already has a strong and wide ranging portfolio of work developed for this year through which it is hoped that even more benefit can be generated in and around the Cardiff Community.
SIFEC Consultants
Given that SIFE Cardiff's ambition to make a considerable contribution to the local community reached beyond our human resources last year, SIFE Cardiff developed a professional approach to achieving maximum impact while recognising our limiting factor. The solution was SIFEC Consultants, 'a student based consultancy service that offers research and problem solving services to businesss, social enterprises and Third Sector organisations'. The beauty of this project was that it allowed students who were able to make a full commitment to SIFE to become involved in projects that had been arranged by our organisation. While these individuals obtained short term (one academic term) real life consultancy experiences, project clients received high quality consultancies free of charge. SIFEC Consultants will continue this work in the current academic year on projects with:
- Equal Exchange Tea - A local Social entrepreneur has formed a business relationship with the Fair Trade based
producer group in India and is seeking to promote the sale of Equal Exchange Tea in the Cardiff area. A team of
consultants will be recruited to work with this socially orientated business to find new outlets and promote the tea
throughout the area.
- Just Trading Scotland - SIFE Cardiff have recently developed a connection with Just Trading Scotland, an alternative
trade organisation who important and promote Fair Trade products from the developing world. A team of consultants
will be recruited to promote a new addition to the organisations range by researching and developing markets in
Wales.
- Riverside Market - For SIFE Cardiff the production and sale of food is more than a mean to life and livelihood, but a
fundamental component of being (you are after all, literally and metaphorically , what you eat). For this reason we will
be recruiting a project team to promote the availability of the local farmers market to students and other members of
the Cardiff community.

Your University Co-op
One of SIFE Cardiff's most successful projects last year was to facilitate the setting up of Your University Co-op. While the original idea was conceived by the SIFE group, a concern that the enterprise would be resilient and self sustaining saw the group build an independent entity by seeking strategic partnerships with a number of university and regional government organisations. With a tremendously successful first year of operation behind us, SIFE Cardiff are keen to develop and grow the operation in the forthcoming year and will continue to work with the cooperative on an arm's length consultancy basis.

Fund Raising Workshop and Consultancy for Education Towards a Future
In October, SIFE are offering you the chance to particpate in an Event Management Course (EMC). Specialist speakers will cover all the aspects of Event Management, namely idea generation, marketing, advertising and managing the event on the day (one-to one workshops will also be available after the course for students wishing to specialise in a particular area).
Following the EMC in October, SIFE have partnered with a local charity to provide Cardiff students the opportunity to undertake an internship in fund raising and event management. A team of 6 (plus two project leaders from SIFE) will have the task of raising money for the new-found charity ‘Education Towards a Future’ by organising events within Cardiff and also exploring other means of fundraising. This will seek to enhance the student’s skills and knowledge of event management and also their ability to fundraise in general. At the same time, the charity is provided with a fresh perspective on fund raising opportunities, and a key factor in measuring success of the internship will be the extent to which interns transfer knowledge to the charity for a sustained impact on income generation. Please visit our EMC page to find out more and book your place on the course.
